About The Word Finder
The Word Finder is an independent site of free word tools and games. There's a word finder for Scrabble and Words With Friends, an anagram solver, word lists, daily hints for the NYT puzzles, and games of our own that you can play as often as you like.
The site is run and written by Mir Hadi, who edits the blog, the word lists and the game guides.
Where the words come from
Every tool runs on the same dictionary. It starts from ENABLE, the public-domain list most word games are based on (about 168,000 words), plus a few newer words such as QI and ZA. Word frequencies come from wordfreq, and they decide which words show up first in results. Definitions come from Open English WordNet (CC BY 4.0) and pronunciations from the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary (BSD). Offensive words are filtered with the LDNOOBW list (CC BY 4.0). Scrabble's official tournament lists are licensed, so they aren't included, and we say so wherever it matters.
How the daily hints are written
We write the hints for Wordle, Connections, Strands and Spelling Bee ourselves. We never copy the NYT's clue text or reprint the puzzles. For Wordle you get the first letter, a vowel count and a letter pattern; for Connections, a nudge toward each group before the category names; for Strands, the spangram's shape. The answers sit behind a reveal, so you can take one hint and go back to your game.
What we don't do
There are no accounts, and we don't track what you search. Game streaks live in your own browser. We don't use pop-ups or pay-to-unlock features, and the unlimited games really are unlimited.
Not affiliated
Wordle, Connections, Strands and Spelling Bee are New York Times games; Scrabble is a Hasbro and Mattel trademark; Words With Friends belongs to Zynga. We're independent of all of them.
