Wordle solver

Add your greens, yellows and greys to see every word that still fits.

A Wordle solver lists every five-letter word that still fits your clues. Put green letters in their slots, add the yellow letters you know are in the word and the grey letters to rule out, and it shows the most common answers first. The pattern box also takes six letters, so it works for 6 letter Wordle too.

How to use the Wordle solver

  1. Type each green letter into its box, first to fifth. Leave the boxes you don't know empty.
  2. Add your yellow letters (in the word, wrong spot) and your grey letters (not in the word).
  3. Press Find words. Common words come first in the list, and Wordle's answers are almost always common words.
  4. Still too many? Guess a word from the list that tests the most new letters, then narrow again.

Good starting words

In our test against 1,574 past answers, RAISE, IRATE and ARISE left the fewest possible answers after one guess; CRANE and SLATE are fine too. Each tests five of the most frequent letters in five-letter answers. After the first guess, prefer a word that uses only letters you haven't tried yet, even if it can't be the answer. You learn more from that than from a lucky early hit.

Our Wordle Unlimited has a daily puzzle with streaks and an unlimited mode for practice. The five-letter word list shows every valid guess with the common ones first.

Questions people ask

Does it know today's answer?

No. It lists every word that fits your clues; the answer is one of them. The fewer clues you give, the longer the list.

What if a grey letter is also green or yellow?

That happens when a word has the letter once and you guessed it twice. Keep it in its green box or in yellows; the grey entry is ignored for letters you've already placed.
