Spelling Bee solver

This Spelling Bee solver lists every word you can make from the seven letters. Enter the centre letter and the other six, and you get every word of four or more letters that uses the centre, with the pangrams marked and the points added up the way the New York Times scores them.

How to use the Spelling Bee helper

  1. Type the centre letter (the yellow one) into the first box.
  2. Type the six outer letters into the second box, in any order.
  3. Press Find words. Pangrams come first, then the rest from longest to shortest, each with its points.
  4. Want to keep some challenge? Read only the pangrams, or only the longest group, and find the rest yourself.

How the points work

A four-letter word is worth 1 point. Longer words score a point per letter, so a six-letter word is worth 6. A pangram gets a 7-point bonus on top of its length. The total at the top of the results is what you would score by finding every word on our list.

Letters can repeat. With L in the centre and A, C, I, N, O and T around it, LOCATION uses O twice and still counts, and it is a pangram too.

Why our list differs from the official one

Our dictionary is based on ENABLE, a public-domain list that many word games use. The puzzle's editors choose each day's accepted words by hand and leave out obscure and offensive ones, so our list usually runs longer than theirs and the totals won't match the official Genius score. If the game rejects a word from our list, that's why. For the official answers once a puzzle is done, see our daily Spelling Bee answers.

Questions people ask

Is this the official NYT word list?

No. Our list is based on ENABLE, a public word list, so it has some words the New York Times leaves out and misses a few it accepts. Expect our word count and points total to come out a bit higher than the official ones.

What is a pangram in Spelling Bee?

A word that uses all seven letters at least once. It scores its length plus a 7-point bonus, so the 8-letter pangram LOCATION is worth 15 points.

Can letters be used more than once?

Yes. A letter can repeat as often as you like, as long as every letter in the word is one of the seven and the centre letter appears at least once.

Why are there no 3-letter words?

Spelling Bee only accepts words of four letters or more, so the solver leaves shorter words out.
