How to use it
- Type your seven tiles. A ? is a blank and can be any letter.
- Playing through a letter already on the board? Put it in Contains; it won't be charged against your rack.
- Results come highest-scoring first. Switch Sort by to Length if you're hunting for a bingo (all seven tiles, 50-point bonus).
- Points shown are face values. Double and triple squares, and the bingo bonus, are added on the board.
Letter values
1 point: A E I L N O R S T U. 2: D G. 3: B C M P. 4: F H V W Y. 5: K. 8: J X. 10: Q Z. Blanks score zero but can be any letter.
Short words win games
Knowing the two-letter words lets you play parallel to existing words and score in two directions at once. The three-letter words and hooks (adding one letter to the front or back of a word on the board) do the rest. Q words without a U (QI, QAT, QOPH, FAQIR) get a 10-point tile out of your rack when no U is coming.
Which dictionary?
We use ENABLE plus additions, the open list behind most online word games. Tournament play uses NWL (North America) or Collins (elsewhere), which differ in a few hundred words. For Words With Friends use the Words With Friends finder, which scores tiles differently.
Questions people ask
Does it handle blank tiles?
Yes, as many as you have. Type a question mark for each one.
Is the word finder free?
Yes. You don't need an account or a download, and you can search as often as you like.
How many letters can I enter?
Up to 15, the longest word that fits on a standard Scrabble board, so you can include board letters you're building through.
Is using a word finder cheating?
In a casual game, that's between you and your opponent. Many players use one after a game to see what they missed, which is one of the quickest ways to get better. Tournament rules don't allow outside help during play.
Why doesn't a word I know show up?
Either it isn't in ENABLE (newer words sometimes aren't), or it needs a letter you didn't enter. If you think a word is missing, tell us and we'll check it.
