What's in the pool
By default you get everyday words: the 22,000 or so that appear often enough in real English to be recognised by most adults. Tick "Include rare words" and the generator draws from all 168,000 words in our dictionary, including the Scrabble-only ones. Offensive words are never included.
Ideas
- Party games: generate 10 words for Pictionary or charades and reload for the next round.
- Writers: three random nouns make a decent story prompt; set the length to 7 or more for richer words.
- Vocabulary: include rare words, pick one you don't know, and tap it to see its anagrams and what else its letters spell.
- Wordle: set length 5 for a random opener. The five-letter word list shows the full set.
