Eight five-letter words, one keyboard. Every guess lands on all eight boards. Classic gives you 13 tries, Chill 15, Extreme 12 and Sequence 14, daily or unlimited.

This is the eight-board Wordle: the same guess is scored on eight hidden words at once, so one word can be green on one board and grey on the next. Everyone gets the same words in today's puzzle, and Unlimited hands you a fresh set whenever you want more. If eight feels like a lot, Quad Wordle has four boards and a gentler budget.

How to play

  1. Type a five-letter word from the word list and press Enter. It is scored on every board that is still open. The line above the keyboard counts your guesses left.
  2. Green: right letter, right spot. Yellow: in the word, wrong spot. Grey: not in that word. Repeated letters work like Wordle: greens first, then yellows only for as many copies as the answer has. Each key is split into eight stripes, one per board in the same order as the grid, and a stripe only ever gets better (grey, then yellow, then green).
  3. A board stops taking guesses on the row you solve it: it dims and its header shows a check and the guess number. You win only when all eight are solved within your guesses; run out and every answer is shown. Eight is the minimum, so Classic leaves you five spare guesses.
  4. Pick a mode: Classic gives 13 guesses. Chill gives 15 with the same everyday answer words. Extreme gives 12 and draws answers from the full dictionary, so they may be rare. Sequence gives 14. Every guess is scored on all eight boards, but you only see the first unsolved one; solve it and the next board opens with all your earlier guesses already scored on it.
  5. Stuck? Hint shows one correct letter on the first unsolved board, as a faint green letter in your current row. You get 4 per game and each one costs 100 points.
  6. Daily counts toward your day streak; hints you use are saved with it. Unlimited gives a new puzzle each time; the link in the address bar reopens that exact puzzle. The archive under the keyboard lists the last 30 daily puzzles.

Scoring

Every solved board is worth 250 points, so a full set is 2,000. If you win, each guess you did not need adds 50. Each hint takes off 100, and the score never drops below 0. Stars: three for a win with at least 3 guesses to spare and no hints, two for a win with at most one hint, one for any other win, none for a loss.

Example: all eight boards in 10 of 13 Classic guesses with no hints is 8 × 250 + 3 × 50 = 2,150 points and three stars.

Tips

Questions people ask

How many guesses do I get?

Classic 13, Chill 15, Extreme 12, Sequence 14. You need at least eight to solve every board, so the spare guesses are your real budget.

Is there a Rescue mode?

Not in Octo. Two wasted computer rows across eight boards would decide the game before you start, so Rescue stays in Quad Wordle.

Is Octo Wordle harder than Quad Wordle?

Yes, mostly because of bookkeeping. The guess budget per board is similar, but tracking eight sets of clues at once is where most games are lost. Chill is the kindest place to start.

Are stats separate from Quad Wordle?

Yes. Each Octo mode keeps its own played count, win rate, guess distribution, day streak and win streak in your browser. Archive games count as wins or losses but do not extend the day streak.
